Sea of Suns is a trippy exploration of childhood fears and fantasy; the Sea of Suns EP was the first solo release by Dave Panter, via the Courier label. And now "Sea Of Suns" has been reworked and remixed by four artists for the "Sea of Suns Remix EP", out on 26th April via Hottwerk Records (digitally) and via Courier (CD and Bandcamp). Opening the brace of remixes is eclectic dj/producer *Spatial Awareness*, veering to the downtempo end of his musical pallette with a throbbing dub of "Jackie Dreaming". Next up, Sheffield sound constructors Comet Of Any Substance take on "Exotica", displaying their trademark experimental flair. Electronic eclectition *Alien* takes ""Is Your Child Safe In The Sea"* on a psychedelic excursion, that may or may not end up on a 3am dancefloor... and closing the package acclaimed producer **USRNM* gets to grips with "Last Contact" with a widescreen rework taking in elements of dub and techno.
Sea of Suns’ Dave Panter discovered DIY synth and computer music whilst he was still at school. Lack of funds (and equipment) meant he could never truly achieve the sounds he wanted to make. This led him down a few different musical paths. After learning to play the bass guitar, he eventually joined local indie band, The Strand. As the 90s drew to a close, he left the group as it had reached its natural end. Also, his interest in music technology was reignited after acquiring an Akai sampler. Combining it with other MIDI instruments he created a few ambient electronic tracks under the working name of Dumi. A few live appearances followed but nothing was released apart from a few uploads to MySpace. The project was put to one side whilst he became a member of the analogue synth group, Weird Gear. After leaving the band around 2010, he slowly began to experiment with various styles of synth pop, lounge and downtempo music. Sea of Suns is a continuation of his early noughties ambient techno experiments blended with the retro electronica style he continues to develop.
